CICC Atlantic VP Mike Hammoud discusses what’s next for Covered Bridge with Nick Canam at the #ConvenienceUCARWACS2024 in Mississauga. The Hartland, NB company’s resiliency and determination to move forward after a devastating fire that destroyed its facilities, is on full display as the CICC member ensured it made it to the show to showcase its products and talk with customers. On behalf of Canada’s convenience industry, we stand with Covered Bridge and will do whatever we can to help it chart a path forward.

Both disappointing and shocking that the BC government would make this move without consulting industry at all.
Fact check Premier David Eby: Convenience retail members of CICC age-gate & verify the sale of nicotine products, including nicotine pouches. They are kept behind the counter. Is that the same at pharmacies with other nicotine replacement products? Despite Health Canada's approval of nicotine pouches without any restrictions, our industry- as responsible retailers, self-imposed sales guidelines. This announcement was arbitrary and punishes our members. Kids purchase these items ONLINE not at our stores. Are you serious about protecting kids? Then target the perpetrators not our local businesses. Convenience Industry Council of Canada https://lnkd.in/gKrSu_57

Jeff Brownlee of Convenience Industry Council of Canada on the growing issue of #greymarkeproducts : “We work with our membership to educate everybody. We are working with governments and decision makers, but there has to be more checks in the system right at the point of entry. That is why we have called for more resources—both financial and labour—for border checks. And we have called upon the federal government to do a study to see how prevalent it is.” https://ow.ly/SMFq50PRaeV #greymarketproducts

Canada's contraband market is now larger than ever, fueled by organized crime and cheating Canadians out of billions of tax dollars. We had anecdotal evidence, but now we have the hard data to back us up: the latest report on contraband tobacco, commissioned by CICC and conducted by EY Canada shows that contraband tobacco is a NATIONAL problem Governments have turned a blind eye to the problem, and we are now calling upon them to take more specific actions like increasing resources for police enforcement, increasing federal-provincial coordination, and regular public reporting. Read our new report outlining the staggering problem, & what needs to be done to fix it. https://bitly.ws/V3Ek #cdnpoli #bcpoli #onpoli #nlpoli
