Nicotine Regulations : C-Stores Unfairly Targeted

Nicotine regulations are never ending. Just as c-stores adapt to one set, new and stricter regulations appear in the pipeline. And, they usually mean less sales for you. Join Eric Gagnon, VP of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at Imperial Tobacco Canada for a discussion on how nicotine regulations have targeted c-stores in Canada. From cigarettes to vaping and now nicotine replacement therapies like ZONNIC, regulators are continuously finding ways to unfairly hit c-stores. Responsible retailers like you can make a difference by speaking up and defending your industry. Let’s talk about how.

A Policy Blueprint - A Smoke-Free Canada through Regulated Vaping Products

During my session, I plan to address several critical topics that I believe are essential to the vaping industry and the overall well-being of consumers. The presentation will be divided into four distinct paths, as outlined below:

  • The Illicit Market and Its Impact: In this segment, I will discuss the illicit market for vaping products, highlighting why it poses a significant threat to the industry and consumers. I will provide insights into the challenges the illicit market poses and the importance of effectively combating it.
  • Flavour Bans a Key Component: The second part of my presentation will focus on the role of flavour bans in addressing addiction. I will present arguments for how flavor bans are a destructive approach to harm reduction and contribute to smoking, per Abigail Freedman.
  • Taxation and Regulation: The third segment of my presentation will delve into the impact of taxation on the vaping industry. I will argue that while taxation can be beneficial for the industry, excessive taxation however can become one of the three existential threats that mirror competition from criminal elements. Overregulation can also stifle innovation and harm consumers' access to safer alternatives.
  • Government and Stakeholder Outreach - Our Commitment to Change Through Education and Engagement: For this segment, I request that Darryl Tempest be included as a speaker for the event and granted permission to address the audience on government interaction. His short speech will be designed to highlight how our retailers have driven successful meetings and education opportunities. Darryl will emphasize that the best thing CICC members can do is actively support the CICC and be engaged in the process. He will stress that your trusted leaders will need their support, even if the timeline for such support is uncertain at this point. Darryl's insights will provide valuable guidance on the importance of collaboration and sustained commitment. Convenience stores are the heart of small business in Canada; we proudly support your initiatives, hence why we are both pleased to support this event.
